2nd Team Match Report - away against Royal Berks 2 - 6 Jan 2022

A new year, and we are back in the swing of things. The 2nd team travelled to David Lloyd in Bracknell to play against Royal Berks 2nd team.

This was the return fixture, but with a slightly different team for us. No Geoff or Vivek, we had Charles (Barracuda) at #1, Ballsy at #2, James M at #3, Jose (El Diablo) at #4 and Phil the super sub at #5.

First up was James M (me) and Phil. Phil “stole” the warm court, and proceeded to trounce his opennent 3-0. Phil stated it had been so long since he’d come to play at this particular club, he was using a wooden racquet the last time.

I had a nice match - it was close, but managed to close it out 3-0. I was happy as I was playing at #3 rather than #4 like last time, and still got a win. And also I ate all the pies over the holidays.

Next up was Jose and Ballsy. I watched both matches and Ballsy ended up having an somewhat easy win 3-1 against a potentially dangerous opponent on a cold court. Then, in what turned out to be the match of the day, El Diablo pulled out a great comeback, winning from 0-2 down, and saving 3 match points in the 4th to win it 3-2.

Last on was Barracuda, who battled valiantly, but unfortunately eventually lost 1-3.

Final result 1-4 to RUSC!

Dinner was in the gym cafe, a nice curry! Bring on the rest of the season.
